Ocean City white marlin record broken

Captain Butch Davis and his crew aboard Cerveza released set a new mark for most white marlin in one day with 27 fish.

Any city that calls itself the "White Marlin Capital of the World" had better be prepared to defend that title.  Last summer, Ocean City, Maryland proved again why it has owned that designation for over 30 years.  Between the beginning of June until the end of September, the Ocean City Marlin Club recorded 971 white marlin released by their members.  The charter-boat Billfisher set a new record for total marlin in a season by releasing 139 whites and one blue while Captain Butch Davis and his crew aboard Cerveza released set a new mark for most white marlin in one day with 27 fish.

"It was the type of day you dream about," Davis recalls, "everywhere I looked there were white marlin cutting on the surface."   He figures that his crew had 50 or 60 shots at billfish that day.  And Cerveza wasn't the only boat on the bite; Davis says that crews fishing 10 miles to the north, 10 miles to the south, and 5 miles inshore were covered up with whites.  "It was the kind of fishing you live for," he says.
