More than 20 Miami Dolphin players taught children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade and Broward counties how to fish in late April, as part of the Jr. Angler’s Clinic. The teaching event was held at the IGFA in Dania Beach, and was sponsored by Publix Supermarkets. Children were paired with a current Dolphins player for an afternoon of fun and the chance to learn some of the player’s favorite fishing tips.

“It’s fun to get out and do an event that most of these kids are not able to do every day,” said quarterback Ryan Tannehill. “It’s a good change-up and something to get them outside, get them outdoors and hopefully a few of them might like it and it turns into something they can do on their downtime. I love fishing and I fish as much I can, some in my backyard, and some in ponds and lakes, and I get out on the ocean when I can.”

The clinic was part of the Miami Dolphins Fishing Tournament, to benefit the Miami Dolphins Foundation, which will be held on Saturday, May 18 at the Miami Beach Marina.

“This is a great prelude to Fins Weekend and the fishing tournament and Publix has been a generous sponsor from day one,” said Fins Weekend Co-Chairman Jeff Peck. “It’s a chance for the kids to be one-on-one with the players and interact and have a really good time. It’s a good chance for the players to get their feet wet so to speak and we’ve raised millions and millions of dollars for local charities.”

The clinic was part of a broader Fins Weekend--the Dolphins’ largest annual event–which features current players, alumni, coaches and cheerleaders. The three-day extravaganza, held on May 16-18, includes an exciting weekend of golf, fishing and celebrities.
