Most states over fluke quotas

The Summer Flounder Technical Committee is studying the possibility of a slot limit for fluke on a coastwise basis...

Despite much stricter regulations and high gas prices, recreational fishermen this year once again exceeded their state quotas in every jurisdiction except Delaware, Virginia and North Carolina. Quotas foe 2009 are a bit higher, but those overages will likely prevent any significant loosening of regulations. The Summer Flounder Technical Committee is studying the possibility of a slot limit for fluke on a coastwise basis, and will consider a series of possible slot sizes, with and without a trophy fish, before presenting the results at the December joint meeting of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council in Montauk, New York.
