MARATHON, Florida Keys -- Sailfishing's finest professional anglers are to compete in the waters around Marathon during the Sailfish Pro Series' Sailfish Open, scheduled Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 10-12, at Hawks Cay Resort, mile marker 61 oceanside.
Registration for the third annual weekend tournament, whose rules allow professional guides, captains and mates to participate as anglers, is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. A 5 p.m. captains meeting is to be followed by an entertainment-filled kick-off party.
Friday's fishing starts with lines in the water at 8 a.m. and continues until lines-out at 4 p.m., capped by a 6 p.m. cocktail party. Saturday's lines-in is set for 8 a.m. and lines-out at 2 p.m. An awards banquet is scheduled Saturday evening.
Anglers are to compete for more than $250,000 in prize money, including a first-place payout of $50,000.
The entry fee is $5,000 per team of six anglers and includes VIP gift bags and admission to tournament social events.
The 2011 Sailfish Open is the second of four tournaments in the Sailfish Pro Series, including the Sailfish Cup that concluded in November.
The third leg of the series is the World Sailfish Tournament set for April 12-16 in Key West. A post-season fish-off finale follows, with a $100,000 first-place payout to the Sailfish Pro Series Champion.
