Funding available for Chesapeake fisheries projects

Proposals must be submitted by December 10

The FishAmerica Foundation, the Chesapeake Bay Trust and the NOAA Restoration Center have announced the availability of  $225,000 to fund various fisheries projects in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

Proposals are being solicited for “meaningful on-the-ground” restoration projects to restore and enhance fish habitat for sportfishing resources and improve and protect water quality for NOAA headwaters species of focus.

There are two project categories that will be considered: the Sportfish Restoration Track in Maryland includes stream restoration, fish passage and dam removal implementation, wetland creation and improvement, riparian restoration and streambank stabilization projects that improve habitat. The second category, which includes the entire Chesapeake Bay watershed, includes: projects that affect fish passage, dam removal, riparian restoration with an in-stream component, stream restoration and other restoration projects that improve headwaters habitat for NOAA species of interest.

Proposals, which may be made for up to $75,000 each, must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on December 10, 2010 and must be filed through the online system at www.cbtrustgrants.org. For more information visit www.fishamerica.org/grants or contact the FishAmerica Foundation at 703-519-9691 x245.
