Washington, NC – “The A-Team,” a professional angling team aboard a 38′ high performance Fountain center console fishing boat, took “Master Angler” honors at a fishing tournament certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest.

A record-breaking crowd of 2,200 participants flocked to Dauphin Island, Alabama, to compete in the 2011 Annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo held July 15-17. By the end of the tournament, 1,992 anglers had checked in at the weigh station, and the Fountain Powerboats “A-Team” had taken the very top prize.

Fishing around the clock with minimal sleep, “The A-Team” crew of Alden Thornton, Chris Bazor, Carl Carder, Zack Seals, and Elliot Cain were forced to contend with some of the worst weather in the history of the 78-year tournament as they chased down the winning fish.

“With the severe conditions, our boat was a huge factor in our success,” said Chris Bazor, of Orange Beach, Alabama, who landed a 27.3-pound black tuna and a 36.62-pound dolphin en route to claiming the tournament’s top prize. “The water was so stirred up that we had to go 150 miles offshore – in heavy seas and blinding rain – to find the fish. Thanks to our 38′ Fountain and its triple 300 horsepower Mercury Verado engines, we knew we had the range, the performance, and the capability to go where we needed to and get the job done.”

Meanwhile, Bobby Wade, another angler fishing from a Fountain 38′ center console, weighed a 25.75-pound dolphin to take second place in the Dolphin category.

Nick Miller, Fountain’s vice president of sales and marketing, said, “Fountain Powerboats is no stranger to the leader boards. Fountain fishing teams have won more offshore tournaments than any of our competitors. We would like to congratulate our winning anglers on a job well done.”
