Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic set for May 3-4

Four hundred anglers are expected to compete for more than $90,000 in prizes.

It’s that time again. Jacksonville, Florida and its area waters are about to become inundated with hardcore kayak anglers.

JaxKayakFishing.com is hosting the 2013 Columbia Sportswear Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic on May 3-4. More than 370 anglers have already registered to compete for more than $90,000 in prizes and gifts, and at least 400 kayak anglers are anticipated again at the world’s largest kayak fishing event.

The largest redfish, seatrout, and flounder slams will win the main prizes, along with the largest catches for each specific species. But there are other divisions, including a specific fly fishing catagory.

Kayak fishing seminars and product events will highlight the week leading up to the Classic which will kickoff with the Maui Jim Captain’s Meeting on Friday, May 3, featuring the Maui Jim Hawaiian Dancers. Maui Jim is providing its famous Aloha atmosphere, prizes, and happy hour hors d’ oeuvres.

Wednesday, May 1 Black Creek Outfitters is hosting a Hobie Kayaks fishing seminar featuring Hobie Ambassador Frank Gregg and Pro Staff Rory Gregg. A Hobie Mirage Outback will also be raffled at the Classic and tickets are available at Black Creek Outfitters.

Thursday, May 2 Black Creek Outfitters is also hosting a BBQ and happy hour with Jackson Kayaks Pro Staff Drew “BasserDrew” Gregory. Drew will be showing all of Jackson’s fishing kayaks including the new Jackson Kayak SUPerFISHal fishing standup paddleboard.

Strike-Zone Fishing is hosting an in-store raffle for a fully equipped Bote HD fishing standup paddleboard. Tickets are available only at Strike-Zone Fishing and the Bote HD will be raffled at the Classic.
