Chuck Many wins Hi-Mar for third straight year
Chuck Many of Annandale, the reigning ASA Angler of the Year, added to his laurels on Tyman II by winning the Hi-Mar Striper Club 40-Hour Fall Striped Bass Tournament at Bahrs Landing in Highlands during the last weekend in October. John Thomas of Belvidere, Matt Calabria from Hazlet, and Dave Donahue of Readington completed the crew that weighed two bass for 47.76 pounds that edged Al Dudas with 44.76 pounds on Nauti Boy. Live eels and bunkers fished at Shrewsbury Rocks and in the Hudson and East Rivers lured the larger bass. The contest was shut down around noon Saturday when gale warnings were posted, but resumed Sunday morning.
 
Big stripers win ASA Cape May Tournament
The Nov. 1 American Striper Association Tournament at South Jersey Marina in Cape May produced the big bass anglers have been looking for. Team Oh Well from Langhorne, Pa., skippered by Paul Zgalich, boated linesiders of 45.65 and 35.10 pounds for the winning total of 80.75 pounds. Capt. Harry Svenson of Union Beach was second on Cheap Shot with bass of 28.35 and 45.25 pounds for 73.60 pounds.  Jamie Diller of Avalon, N.J. took third with Team Little Lady by totaling 72.75 pounds – including a 40.15-pounder. Matt Unsworth led Team Mod Squad to fourth place with 67.55 pounds.
