FishStock celebrated its 10th anniversary this year in New Smyrna Beach, and while the last day of the popular Memorial Day weekend festival at Riverside Park was little wet and windy, otherwise it was a huge success!

The event, sponsored by Sony Marine and Dow Electronics, typically features the FishStock festival, the New Smyrna/Daytona Beach Striker offshore and Redfish/Trout Challenge inshore tournaments. Unfortunately, high winds pushed ashore by approaching Tropical Storm Beryl postponed the Striker tournament by did little to dampen the spirits of anglers fishing the Redfish/Trout Challenge.

The Redfish Trout Challenge, presented by Yellowfin and Mercury, hosted 90 boats and found top inshore anglers in fierce competition for the biggest bag of two redfish and one trout. Team Snap Back, consisting of Billy Joyce, Danielle Giamo, Dennis Cox and Dustin Giamo, came out as the big winners, scoring the Top Boat Overall prize and earning second place finishes in the Trout and Redfish categories. The top team in the Redfish category was Karma Boatworks, with anglers Bryan Ward and Justin Collison. Top Trout honors went to team Sho N Tail, consisting of Doug White and Gary Bell. The Top Junior Angler was Walker Bailey, and Tracy Carpenter took Top Female Angler honors. Everyone was invited to follow along with live scoring updates throughout the weekend on www.fishstock.com.

Land-based fun at FishStock included a boat show with over 15 national builders that attracted over 4000 consumers over the four days of the festival. Rick Murphy’s Chevy Florida Insider Fishing Report tent and the ever-popular KidStock seminars also drew large crowds throughout the weekend. The FishStock 5k and fun run sponsored by Sony Walkman was held Sunday morning, and exceeded 500 participants this year — a new record. FishStock also featured a number of great local and regional bands this year, including “Outbound Road”, “The Mob Band” and “Barley Wine Band.” Sony’s Alpha Camera division hosted educational photography seminars on site in conjunction with Ritz Camera and Boating LAB editor Randy Vance. Great food was available at FishStock courtesy of Off The Hook Raw Bar and Grill along with the New Smyrna Beach Steak House.

The postponed Striker tournament will now be held this weekend, June 2, at the Fishing Store in New Smyrna Beach. The captains’ meeting and registration will be held Friday night (June 1) from 5-9 p.m. with Saturday’s one-day fishing shoot-out followed by weigh-ins at 4:30 p.m. Those anglers interested in fishing the Striker should call Dan Jacobs at 407-405-0102, or email dan.jacobs@bonniercorp.com. More information can also be found at www.fishstock.com.
