Homemade Hook Disgorger

02_04_disgorger.jpg

Here’s how to make a handy hook disgorger out of some scrap PVC pipe and fittings. Use a miter box to cut one end of a 12″ length of 1″ diameter PVC at a 45-degree angle. Using a triangular file, form a notch in the long end of the angle. The notch is used to catch a hook in the bend to free it. Use PVC cement to attach a T-fitting at the other end of the pipe to act as a handle. If you make two of these, the T-fitting can act as a jaw spreader for toothy game fish – simply insert that end in the fish’s mouth and twist.
