Early Sony Walkmans played cassettes, then later CDs, and they made music portable. Today’s Walkman W Series NWZW252 plays MP3s and even features a water-resistant design: music to an angler’s ears. The 1.6ounce player comes with 2 GB of maximum capacity for holding about 470 songs. Its buds fit snugly but comfortably into the ears, and a coated wire wraps around the back of the neck. Controls are located on both side frames, which resemble cell-phone headsets. The player comes with PC-based software to facilitate content transfer and a USB charger. The quick-charge function requires only three minutes to produce 90 minutes of run time. Fully charged battery life is about 11 hours. Several playback options are available. The unit costs $60.
