The ICOM IC-M402S VHF marine radio is a simplified version of the remote-compatible IC-M402. ICOM America designed the IC-M402S for owners of smaller boats who need the features and power of the IC-M402, but not the remote-controlled Commandmic or its added expense. The IC-M402S VHF has the same user-friendly digital technology, is simple to operate and is rated JIS-7 submersible, which means it will still function after being fully immersed in water. The radio features a newly designed LCD with large, easy-to-see numerals and four selectable levels of backlighting, and an updated speaker. The IC-M402S has built-in DSC capability and can be hooked up to a GPS to act as a position repeater. The IC-M402S has a list price of $320.
