Furuno NX-300 Paperless NAVTEX Receiver

furuno_nx300.jpg

The new NX-300 Paperless NAVTEX Receiver from Furuno lets serious offshore fishermen have all the information that commercial mariners use to make decisions. The NAVTEX coastal telex broadcast system transmits meteorological and navigation warnings and search-and-rescue reports to vessels operating 200 to 400 miles offshore. NAVTEX reports have always been free, but the receiver was always priced out of reach, not to mention the rolls of thermal paper it prints on. The unit uses the same waterproof, compact case as Furuno’s GP36 and comes with an easy-to-install antenna. The NX-300 stores up to 60 text messages, interfaces with a GPS and a personal computer and sells for $595. Furuno, Camas, WA; (360) 834-9300; www.furuno.com.
