Furuno's compact, waterproof 1712 radar with 7" LCD display is a solid choice for smaller boats. The high-definition screen displays echoes in four shades of gray. With a powerful 2.2kW transmitter, the 1712 offers 14 range scales from 1/8 to 24 nautical miles. The 18-inch radome houses a newly designed 24-rpm hybrid antenna with a 5.2-degree horizontal beam. The 1712 can display waypoints when connected to a GPS unit and has a navigation data screen. The unit features automatic control of tuning, sensitivity and anti-clutter for simple operation and optimum performance, according to the manufacturer.
