Airmar R174/M174 In-Hull Transducer

The Airmar R174/M174 In-Hull Transducer mounts inside the boat and shoots through solid fiberglass and aluminum hulls to provide a strong signal, according to the manufacturer. Because it mounts on the inside of the hull, the 1 kW transducer does not require any holes to be drilled in the hull. The transducer accommodates a variety of deadrise angles and does not adversely affect the boat's performance by causing drag or turbulence. The internal mounting also allows the R174/M174 to be removed for maintenance or storage. The unit has high-efficiency ceramic arrays to offset any transmission losses resulting from the hull, and the manufacturer says the narrow beamwidth provides high-definition fish-finding. The suggested retail price for the R174/M174 transducer is around $800, depending on the brand and model of fishfinder. Airmar Technology Corp., Milford, NH; (603) 673-9570; http://www.airmar.com.
