For the most demanding offshore anger, the WASSP (Wide Angle Sonar Seafloor Profiler) Multibeam Sonar from Furuno and Electronic Navigation Ltd. provides sonar generally associated with research or commercial fishing. However, this high-powered sounder has been put to use by sport-fishing boats for its exceptional reach and breadth in deep water. The WASSP records bathymetry and bottom features in high resolution with 112 dynamic sampling beams. The 120-degree port-starboard swath georeferences reefs and wrecks, fish schools, and bottom-hardness changes. The image can be saved and overlaid on WASSP’s Navigator plotter on Navionics charts, or other plotting programs in 3-D, 2-D, normal echosounder, sonar and side-scan sonar views.
