Rock the Joint
If you think two or three joints add great action to a swimming plug, wait until you try nine. The Flex-X from Strike Pro ($13) takes hardbaits to the next level and is one of the most realistic-looking plugs we’ve seen in the water. The jointed segment of the Flex-X causes the tail to wiggle in a tight “S”¿ motion at both slow and fast retrieve rates. The micro-skin coating is extremely durable, while the holographic scale pattern adds more flash. No matter what type of small baitfish you need to match, the Flex-X has it covered from the redfish flats to the striper surf. Strike Pro; (409) 621-1126; www.strikeproamerica.com

Hooker Boots
Dogs barking after a day offshore? Unlike those old white rubber boots you’ve been wearing for years, Evair boots ($70) from Shimano feature an ergonomic arch and molded air channels that provide maximum comfort on the water no matter how rough it gets. V-cuts at the top of the one-piece, fully waterproof EVA boots make it easy to slip them on and off, while the nonskid soles keep you planted should a stray wave find its way over the bow. Small Wonder
If you’re into stalking the flats or chasing fish in the back bays, the SuperCaster 240 SX spinning reel ($170) lets you keep your setup light without sacrificing power. Developed by U.S. Reel, the 240 SX features a large-diameter spool for a reel this size and an aircraft-grade carbon-fiber body. The brass pinion and SDS drag system can handle any torture you or the fish dish out. This little grinder cranks in 31 inches of line per turn and offers easy line feathering for better accuracy on the cast. We spooled the reel with 20-pound braid””it held 277 yards””and saw a noticeable increase in casting distance, even when launching lighter lures. U.S. Reel; (314) 962-9500; www.usreel.com

Wax On, Wax Off
SWS Senior Editor Dave Lear can be tough to impress when it comes to boat-care products, but he really took a shine to Scotchgard Marine Liquid Wax ($20) from 3M. Designed specifically for salt water boats, the wax provides protection from ultraviolet rays that can damage a gelcoat over time. Safe for use on fiberglass, marine metals and topside paint, the wax buffs to a high-gloss shine that will cut clean-up time after fishing trips in half. Says Lear: “This wax buffed easily and stopped tannin and stains from sticking to the gelcoat.”¿ 3M; (888) 364-3577; www.3m.com
