ANOTHER SHORT GULF SNAPPER SEASON John Frazier

NOAA has announced the Gulf of Mexico red snapper recreational season for 2016, and it gives private anglers a paltry 9 days to fish for the popular and abundant species in Federal waters. For-hire and charter boats, on the other hand, have been granted a 46-day season in the same waters, for the same fish.

The Federal season for private anglers opens June 1, 2016, at 12:01 a.m. and closes on June 10, 2016, at 12:01 a.m., local time. The for-hire season remains open until July 17, 2016, at 12:01 a.m., local time. The federal-water red snapper bag limit is 2 fish per person per day with a 16-inch minimum total length size limit.
