Pursuit 3070 Center Console

With a wide 10′ 6″ beam and a true running length of over 30 feet, the new 3070 Center Console from Pursuit is one big boat. The company originally designed the hull for Pursuit’s immensely popular 3070 Offshore Center Console, introduced last year, but while that was a cabin boat, this new version is a true center console.

We got a chance to fish the boat in the Bahamas for several days last spring, in conditions ranging from flat calm to eight-foot seas, and the 3070 performed superbly no matter what we threw at it. Like all Pursuits, the 3070 CC has a very solid feel and exhibits a high standard of fit and finish. When crashing through steep waves whipped up by a front that blew up off Walkers Cay, the 3070 never pounded, groaned or shuddered.

Plenty Fast

Rigged with twin 250-hp Yamahas, the 3070 was also surprisingly agile and quick. The hull got onto plane with little bow rise, and the 21-degree transom deadrise provided plenty of vee to slice the seas. Accelerating to a 4000 rpm cruise, we were travelling at 31.8 knots. With the throttles pushed forward, the twin outboards top out at 5300 rpm and produce a speed of 41.9 knots. That’s plenty fast for a boat of this size.

The 3070’s size really becomes apparent when you step into the cockpit. Maximum fishing room is the theme here, with everything laid out in an orderly and logical manner. Take the integrated transom bulkhead, for example. It features an inward-opening transom gate to port, plus a 44-gallon live well in the center. There’s also a Corian cutting board and a fresh water sink, and our test boat featured Pursuit’s optional refrigerated bait drawers beneath the cutting board. These drawers keep baits chilled and fresh, and even feature a drain valve you can close to keep cold air from flowing out.

A huge (five feet wide) transverse fishbox in the deck is pitched aft so all the mess can drain through a macerator that pumps it overboard. Moving forward, a well-designed rocket launcher/ leaning post contains five slide-out tackle trays and three large tackle drawers. A rigging tray and drink holders sit on top of the unit. The boat’s batteries are located under the front of the leaning post, and the helmsman sits atop a very cool power-adjustable bench seat. The ergonomically designed helm features lots of room for electronics, and is surrounded by a large, sleek, acrylic windshield. This may be one tough fishing machine, but it’s also rigged for comfort and style. The sub-console head compartment has lots of room, along with a Vacu-Flush head, a pressurized fresh water sink, a hanging locker and extra storage.

A drink cooler resides beneath the forward console seat, and the bow features lots of storage and open fishing room. Bench seats forward drain overboard and contain large dry-storage areas, while forward rod lockers hold three rods per side. A huge in-deck storage box can accommodate lots of gear, and there’s an anchor locker at the bow right next to the molded-in pulpit.

Pursuit Boats come with a five-year transferable, structural and blister-free warranty on the hull and deck, as well as a lengthy standard-equipment list. Standard items include cockpit lights, cockpit coaming bolsters, an Armstrong boarding ladder, hydraulic steering, shore power with battery charger, recessed trim tabs, and much more. You can also order the boat in conventional white or Pursuit-green hull colors.

However you color it, you get a lot of boat that’s put together right, with superb attention to detail. Pursuit has thought of just about everything the fisherman could want. That’s nice, because, unlike boats from some other manufacturers, the 3070 Center Console comes ready to fish.
