Hook a Bird?
Don’t Cut That Line!

Anglers should unhook birds caught on fishing tackle rather than merely cutting the line, because just ten inches of trailing line can kill the hooked bird, according to Save Our Seabirds, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing injured native and migratory seabirds. The organization tries to prevent human-inflicted injuries to seabirds with simple tips, such as properly disposing of fishing line and protecting birds by not feeding them filleted fish carcasses. For more information about the organization and a free, downloadable manual packed with tips on protecting seabirds from fishing-related injuries, visit www.seabirdrehab.org.
