The NOAA Fisheries Service has eliminated the 240-foot (40-fathom) snapper-grouper prohibition in South Atlantic federal waters. This Draconian prohibition made illegal the possession of six deepwater snapper-grouper species (snowy grouper, blueline tilefish, yellowedge grouper, misty grouper, queen snapper, and silk snapper) in or from the South Atlantic federal waters in water deeper than 240 feet.    Read More

Along with about 900 other friends, fans and family, I attended the memorial service for Jose Wejebe last Sunday at the IGFA museum and headquarters in Dania Beach, Florida. On a recent trip to the Pacific side of Panama, I got to fish again with two of my favorite fishing companions: George Large of Yo-Zuri Lures, and Carter Andrews, of Islas Secas Lodge in Panama’s Gulf of Chiriqui. At this year's Miami International Boat Show -- currently underway at the Miami Beach Convention Center -- we attended a press conference put on today by Pursuit Boats. At the press conference Pursuit did not introduce a new model boat but instead introduced a new concept in ways to fund research for breast cancer science. They showed us a boat wrapped in a blue and pink wrap depicting a pink mermaid swimming through blue sparkling water. This mermaid signifies Pursuit's commitment to donate money from every boat sold at the Miami show to breast cancer research at Johns Hopkins University. Read More
