June 1st will be the opening day for catch and release fishing for King Salmon in the Seattle area. This can be a great time to catch a big wild king in Puget Sound. Fishing pressure is usually low at this time, as you have to let them go. I like to fish plugs, as well as Dodger and Hootchie combos. July is time for keeping fish, first we have Coho available and then on the 15th the sound will open for 45 days for the retention of fin clipped (hatchery) king salmon. This is a fairly liberal season for the sound, having quotas the past two years. I will be updating this report as the season moves on.
