Florida Panhandle Fishing Report

Apalachicola / Port St. Joe update

Well winter has certainly arrived along the Forgotten Coast. With the water temps on the flats down into the 60’s your best bet is to fish deep water. On the cold days look for trout schooling in Marina Basin’s and along the ICW. These areas are best fished using soft bodied jigs or live shrimp. I always prefer to fish the last two hours of the incoming tides. There have been catches reported of 60-plus Trout per day in the ICW. Around Apalachicola, the deeper holes in the mouth of the river are always good for trout, reds and sheepshead this time of year. The outlook for Febuary looks great. Even though trout season is closed there will be plenty of action all along the Florida Panhandle. As we move toward the end of the month look for reds to be hanging in about three to four feet of water near the flats and canals. On the warmer days these fish will be making feeding run onto the flats. This area should be a great place to catch them coming and going.
