What’s Biting in Tampa Bay

With a little cooler temperature and light boat traffic fall fishing is right around the corner.

What’s biting in Tampa Bay!
Hello from Ann Maria, it feels like fall is in the air today. Not real cool but definitely a nice from the sweltering heat. That’s why fall is such a nice time of year, dryer with less humidity, good fishing and it’s so peaceful with the light boat traffic.
Fishing on the flats has been real good this past week. Plenty of places to fish and lots of fish to catch. Pretty much all the snook and redfish you want to catch, like it’s been for a while now, some darn nice trout too. We had a couple 50 plus snook and redfish days this week. Some of the snook have been keepers up to 31 inches. The reds are real nice like they always are this time of year. Most of my redfish have been slot fish falling in the 20 to 25 inch range, though we did have a few bulls up to 33 inches. The few days that we did spend a good amount of time on trout we did really well, lots of eaters in the 16 to 21 inch class the largest maybe a little over 22 inches.
As for offshore, I have not been out fishing in the gulf. I guess the flats fishing is too easy. I know they have been catching some decent grouper in a little closer. The kings are starting to move in as well. Some are starting to be caught in closer, this is just the beginning and it will be much better very shortly. I plan to spend some time this week fishing Kings.
For October my primary target will be snook and reds on the flats, and kingfish, grouper, mackerel, and tunny out deeper. Maybe a few tarpon. Hope you have enjoyed my report.
